Climbing Wall at Peking University
Originally built in 1998 by Mountaineering Association of Peking University (MAPKU), the wall is 15 meters high and 5 meters wide. It has eight routes and mainly used for training association members. In 2001, the wall was redesigned a lot with the aid of Rejoice brand from Procter and Gamble (China), one of key corporate sponsors for MAPKU. Four new routes were built, of which two on the south side and two on the east side.
Routes: Without any vertical wall, the south routes are quite challenging.
Left South Route: the route starts at 105 degree from the floor to the 4m position, followed by a one-meter-wide roof. The route then becomes 120 degree from 4m to 8m and 101 degree from 8m to 11m. From 11m to 14m, it extends to 130 degree till finally 105 degree.
Right South Route: same as the right side, the route begins at 105 degree from the floor to the 4m position, followed by a one-meter-wide roof. It continues to be 105 degree from 4m to 12m with a 3.6-meter-deep roof at 11m position. The rest part of route is 100 degree. Bolts are all over the route at every 0.9 meter from 4m position.
Speed Routes (East): it mixes vertical walls and small bulges. Three 1.8m-long bulges are at 4m, 8m and 12m position respectively.
